Bangladesh recognises 29 cos with green factory award

The government on Sunday recognized 29 factories across 12 sectors for their exemplary commitment to workplace safety, environmental compliance, and overall good practices by awarding ‘Green Factory Award 2023’.

The award ceremony took place on Sunday, coinciding with the National Occupational Health and Safety Day, at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city.

Speaker of Parliament, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, presided over the event and presented the awards to the representatives of the honored factories.

The Ministry of Labor and Employment, in collaboration with the Department of Inspection of Factories and Establishments, organized the event.

Labour state minister Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury was present as special guest at the event chaired by labour secretary Md Mahbub Hossain.

The 29 factories shortlisted for the ‘Green Factory Award-2023’ span across 12 sectors, including 14 textile and readymade garment factories, four tea estates, four leather (tannery) and leather goods manufacturers, two cement plants, as well as representatives from the plastic, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals and tiles and ceramic sectors.

The factories are: AR Jeans Producers Ltd, Mahmuda Attires Ltd, Evitex Dress Shirt ltd, Designer Fashion Ltd, Southern Garments Ltd, Pakiza Knit Composite Ltd, Epyllion Knitwears Ltd, Laila Style Ltd, GMS Textile Ltd, Genesis Fashions Ltd, Auko Tex Ltd, Four H Dyeing and Printing Ltd, Envoy Textiles Ltd and Pahartali Textile and Hosiery Mills.

Mirzapur Tea Garden, Chatlapur Tea Factory, Zareen Tea Garden, Gazipur Tea Garden will be awarded from tea sector.

Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Ltd, Apex Footwear Ltd, FB Footwear Limited from leather (finished goods), SAF Industries Ltd from leather (tannery) categories will be awarded.

The rest of the factories included Lafarge Holcim Bangladesh Limited, Heidelberg Cement Bangladesh Limited, Banga Building Materials Ltd, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Shinepukur Ceramics Ltd, Walton Hi-Tech Industries and Akij Food and Beverage Ltd.
