Economist M Masrur Reaz has been appointed chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for a four-year term.
The Financial Institutions Division issued a circular confirming the appointment on Tuesday.
Masrur Reaz is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Policy Exchange Bangladesh, a research organization.
He also served as a senior economist in the World Bank Group’s finance, competitiveness, and innovation global practice from 2010 to 2020.
Additionally, he is a policy adviser at the International Growth Centre.
Masrur is an economist specializing in private sector-led economic development.
He previously served as a Senior Economist and Program Manager at the World Bank Group, where he worked across East Asia, the Pacific, and South Asia, leading the competitiveness agenda in these regions.
Masrur Reaz is also a sponsoring shareholder of Financial Express, the country’s leading financial daily.
Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam, the former BSEC chairman, resigned on August 11, following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her subsequent departure from the country.
