A delegation from the Worker Rights Consortium (WRC) on Monday paid a courtesy visit to Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association administrator Anwar Hossain at the BGMEA complex in Uttara in the capital.

The delegation comprised WRC director of international advocacy Thulsi Narayanasamy, regional director for South Asia Manodeep Guha and WRC Bangladesh representative Shaikat Mollik.

During the meeting, the BGMEA administrator provided the WRC delegation with an overview of the current state of Bangladesh’s garment industry, outlining both its challenges and opportunities.

He highlighted the transformative progress the industry has made in recent years regarding workplace safety, labour standards and environmental sustainability.

Anwar Hossain emphasised the need for fair pricing to ensure the industry’s sustainability, noting that worker welfare is directly affected by pricing policies.

He pointed out that, while production costs have risen due to various international and domestic factors, the prices offered by buyers do not reflect this reality.

He further added that Bangladesh has already earned global recognition as a safe and ethical sourcing destination. He urged the WRC leaders to press brands and buyers to pay fair prices.
