A three-day trade show will kick off on Thursday to promote the US-based businesses here in the country and enhance bilateral trade between the two countries.
The annual event titled ‘29th US Trade Show’ will take place at a city hotel where some 44 exhibitors will display their products.
American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) and United States Embassy in Dhaka are the co-organizers of the event and made the announcement at a city hotel on Tuesday.
Commercial Counselor of the US Embassy, Dhaka John Fay and the AmCham President Syed Ershad Ahmed were present at the press conference.
Highlighting different aspects of the trade fair, AmCham Executive Director Shahadat Hossen said since 1992 the show has been taking place in the country and this year the event is going to take place at a special occasion as May is the month of world trade.
In addition to the exhibition, there will also be five seminars on different topics including women empowerment in the AI era, doing business with the US, and higher study in the USA during the event.
The show will remain open for visitors all three days from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm with an entry fee of Tk 30 (Taka thirty) per person, organizers said adding students in uniform or with identity cards will be allowed to visit the fair free of cost.
There will be prizes for a few lucky visitors, based on a raffle drawing of entry ticket coupons after the Trade Show concludes.
Private Industry and Investment Adviser to the Prime Minister Salman Fazlur Rahman is expected to inaugurate the show as the chief guest.
Speaking at the conference, John Fay said US companies mostly look for the investment climate where free flow of capital is ensured and some economic reforms in Bangladesh could help attract more foreign direct investment.
Responding to queries Amcham president Syed Ershad Ahmed said the introduction of the country’s logistics policy has been noteworthy progress with private sector participation though proper implementation of the policy is going to be crucial.
