Sheikh Hasina inaugurates SME fair

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday inaugurated the 11th National SME Product Fair, emphasising the need for both domestic and foreign investments in the country’s 100 economic zones.

She highlighted that the government has allocated land for 80 of these zones and encouraged local entrepreneurs, particularly through the SME Foundation, to establish industries either independently or in partnership.

The fair, held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center and jointly organised by the Industries Ministry and SME Foundation, showcases products from small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The prime minister stressed the importance of industrialisation for job creation and economic progress and noted the government’s efforts to support agricultural mechanization and food production, which would also boost the SME sector.

She highlighted the potential for domestic production and export of mechanical parts, provided proper training is given. This, she said, would enhance local market growth and purchasing capacity.

During the event, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Senior Secretary of Industries Ministry Zakia Sultana, FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam, and SME Foundation Chairperson Professor Md Masudur Rahman also spoke.

A documentary on the Industries Ministry and SME Foundation was screened, and the prime minister awarded crests and certificates to seven winners of the National SME Entrepreneurship Award 2023.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also visited various stalls at the exhibition.
