Record Tk4.89 crore in tolls collected from Padma Bridge

A record amount of tolls was collected from the Padma Bridge within a 24-hour period on Tuesday, following its opening on June 26, 2022.

Between 12:00 am and 11:59 pm on Tuesday, a total of Tk 4,89,94,700 was collected from 45,204 vehicles that crossed from both sides of the bridge amid the holiday travels ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Officials from the Bangladesh Bridge Authority reported that on that day, a total of 30,330 vehicles crossed the bridge from the Mawa side, contributing Tk 2,76,37,900 in tolls. From the Janjira side, 14,874 vehicles crossed the bridge, yielding Tk 2,13,56,800 in tolls.

The Bangladesh Bridge Authority further noted that since the bridge opened to the public on June 26, 2022, up until April 9, 2024 (Tuesday), a total of 1,08,55,662 vehicles had crossed the bridge, generating Tk 1453,14,12,800 in toll revenue.

Since its opening, the highest number of vehicles to cross the bridge within 24 hours was 51,316 on June 26, 2022, followed by 45,204 on April 9, 2024, and 43,137 on June 27, 2023.

The second-highest amount of tolls collected from vehicles crossing the bridge in a 24-hour period was Tk 4,60,53,300 on June 27, 2023, and Tk 4,19,39,650 on July 8, 2022, as reported by the officials of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority.
