Mobile courts impose Tk42.7 lakh in fines for air pollution

A total of 15 mobile court operations were carried out across 12 districts to combat illegal brick kilns causing air pollution, under the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.

During the operations, a total of 21 cases were filed, resulting in Tk 42.7 lakh in fines, with 10 brick kilns demolished.

These operations were conducted in 12 districts: Lakshmipur, Cox’s Bazar, Magura, Cumilla, Chattogram, Sirajganj, Feni, Meherpur, Gazipur, Kurigram, Narayanganj, and Pirojpur.

Two mobile court operations were conducted in Shariatpur and Barguna districts against the illegal production, sale, supply, and marketing of banned polythene.

Five cases were filed, and fines of Tk 13,000 were imposed.

A total of 201 kg of banned polythene was seized. Shop owners across the country were also warned against dealing with banned polythene.

According to the Air Pollution Control Regulations 2022, two mobile court operations were conducted in Khilgaon and Paltan areas of Dhaka city against air pollution caused by construction materials.

Two cases were filed, and fines of Tk 9,000 were collected. Authorities also issued warnings to the responsible parties.

A mobile court operation was carried out in Keraniganj, Dhaka, targeting the illegally operating Shah Paran Biscuit Factory.

The factory’s electricity connection was severed, and its operations were fully shut down. The crackdown on environmental pollution will continue.
