Mohammad Hatem, managing director of MB Knit Fashion Ltd, has been appointed president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) following the resignation of Salim Osman.
The decision was made during a meeting of the BKMEA executive board held at its Dhaka office on Sunday.
In addition to Hatem’s appointment, the board elected Fazlee Shamim Ehsan as the executive president and Md Shamsuzzaman as vice-president.
Prior to these appointments, Hatem served as the executive president, while Shamim was the senior vice-president.
According to a BKMEA press release, Salim Osman recently stepped down from his role as president, citing health concerns. Osman had led the trade body for the past 14 years, having held the position since 2010.
Salim, who also served as a member of parliament for Narayanganj-5, resigned following the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government amid a student-led mass uprising on August 5.
In related developments, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) board appointed Khandoker Rafiqul Islam as president on Saturday, following the resignation of SM Mannan Kochi.
Additionally, on August 11, the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) named Shawkat Aziz Russell, chairman of Amber Group, as its president, replacing Mohammad Ali Khokon, who resigned for personal reasons.
