The jewellers have increased gold prices again, with the precious metal to be sold at Tk 143,525 per bhori from Thursday.
Previously, each bhori, or 11.664 grammes, of 22-carat gold ornaments was priced at Tk 141,950.
The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring decided to raise the price in a meeting today, citing a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market.
Gold prices in Bangladesh have been rising steadily for over a year, driven by international market hikes and supply volatility domestically.
BAJUS raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 1,575 to Tk 143,525 per bhori – the highest recorded increase in the country’s history as of 30 October.
Additionally, the price of 21-carat gold rose by Tk 1,504 to Tk 137,005 per bhori, 18-carat by Tk 1,295 to Tk 117,433 and gold of the traditional method by Tk 1,097 to Tk 96,520, according to a BAJUS statement issued on Wednesday.
