FBCCI urges traders to keep commodity prices stable

A team from the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), led by its administrator Md Hafizur Rahman, visited Kaptan Bazar in the capital Dhaka to ensure the stability of chicken and egg prices and to maintain a robust supply chain.

The FBCCI’s market monitoring cell conducted the visit to the kitchen market, where the administrator gathered updated information on egg prices and the supply situation.

During discussions with leaders of the Kaptan Bazar Egg Businessmen Multipurpose Cooperatives Association, Hafizur sought the cooperation of wholesale and retail egg traders to keep prices within reach for the general public, as stated in a press release.

Hafizur emphasised the FBCCI’s desire to see business leaders play a role in stabilising the market and requested information about market manipulators attempting to create an artificial crisis. “We will forward such information to the government, which will take appropriate action,” he said.

He also mentioned that if necessary, the FBCCI’s market monitoring cell would assess the chicken and egg supply situation at the suppliers’ level.

In response, Md Nazrul Islam, the former president of the Kaptan Bazar Egg Businessmen Multipurpose Cooperatives Association, assured that they would continue to support the FBCCI’s initiatives.

He expressed hope that prices would decrease if the items were sold at government-fixed rates and if there was sufficient supply to meet demand.

Former FBCCI director Khandaker Ruhul Amin, other business leaders, representatives from the Bangladesh Competition Commission, and student coordinators were also present.
