Syed Manzur Elahi, a distinguished entrepreneur and industrialist, passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 83.
He breathed his last at Gleneagles Hospital in Singapore at 9:31 am (Singapore time), his son, Syed Nasim Manzur, confirmed.
Manzur Elahi had been suffering from age-related complications.
Born in 1942, he had an inspiring entrepreneurial journey, leading major business chambers and earning numerous accolades.
In 1975, Manzur Elahi acquired the modest Orient Tannery for over Tk 12 lakh, a move that laid the foundation for the transformation of his business empire.
This initiative eventually evolved into the diversified Apex Group, with Apex Footwear becoming one of Bangladesh’s largest footwear companies in terms of both domestic sales and exports.
Beyond his business achievements, Elahi also played a role in public service.
He was appointed as an adviser to the caretaker government of Bangladesh twice, in 1996 and 2001.
His passing marks the end of an era in Bangladesh’s industrial landscape, leaving behind a legacy of entrepreneurship and leadership.
