Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated in Bangladesh on Thursday after the Shawwal moon was not sighted in Bangladesh this evening.

The decision was made at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Faridul Haque Khan, after reviewing reports of the Shawwal moon sighting.

Eid will be observed with religious fervor and enthusiasm following a month of fasting. All preparations, including in the capital city, have been completed for the smooth conduct of Eid congregations.

In Dhaka, the main Eid congregation is scheduled at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises at 8:30 am. However, if there is inclement weather, the venue will shift to Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, with the congregation starting at 9:00 am. Additionally, five more congregations will be held at Baitul Mukarram.

Arrangements have been made for women to participate in Eid prayers alongside men at both the National Eidgah and the National Mosque. Eid congregations will also take place in Eidgahs, mosques, and open spaces nationwide.

On Eid day, the national flag will be hoisted atop government and non-government office buildings, and the main city streets and road islands will be adorned with national flags and banners bearing “Eid Mubarak” in Bangla and Arabic.

Television channels and radio stations will air special programs for the occasion. Hospitals, jails, government children’s homes, centers for persons with disabilities, shelters, orphanages, and welfare centers will serve special meals.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has implemented stringent security measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the Eid congregation at the National Eidgah.
