The Financial Express special correspondent Doulat Akter Mala has been elected as president of the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) for a two-year term.
The election, held on Friday, saw Mala secure 114 of the 197 votes cast by members of the country’s largest platform for financial journalists.
Her competitor, Mohammad Refayet Ullah Mirdha, senior reporter for The Daily Star, garnered 82 votes.
The Business Standard special correspondent Abul Kashem was elected general secretary with 93 votes, while Md Ashraful Alam was chosen as vice-president for 2025-26, receiving 101 votes.
Aminul Islam, also with 101 votes, was elected as finance secretary.
The election was followed by the Biannual General Meeting (BGM), during which members unanimously approved the reports submitted by the outgoing general secretary and finance secretary.
Other elected officials include Manik Muntasir, who won the position of assistant general secretary with 126 votes, and Sk Shfayat Hossain, elected unopposed as ICT and training secretary.
The four elected executive committee members are ASM Moinul Haque (127 votes), Kayes Mohammad Sohel (107 votes) Md Jakir Hussain (107 votes) and Ibrahim Hossain Ovi (97 votes).
The election process was overseen by Chief Election Commissioner Hasan Hafiz, with Ayub Bhuiyan and Syed Abdal Ahmed serving as election commissioners.
