The Ministry of Commerce has extended the tenure of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) vice-chairman Md Anwar Hossain as BGMEA administrator for another four months, keeping him in charge until 16 June.

The Trade Organisation Division on February 5 issued an official order confirming the extension.

Anwar Hossain was appointed as the administrator of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) for four months on 20 October 2024, following a mass uprising.

The commerce ministry letter on the extension stated that although an election schedule was announced, the administrator sought more time, citing the inability to initiate and complete the electoral process within the stipulated period due to various reasons.

The extension comes with two conditions-the BGMEA Board of Directors election must follow the organisation’s Memorandum and Articles of Association, and it must be completed at least 15 days before the extended term ends.
