The election board and election-related committees will be formed by the end of January 2025, with the aim of completing the election process for the apparel apex body, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), by April 2025.
The decision was made on Saturday during a meeting with BGMEA Administrator Md Anwar Hossain and the leaders of the two contesting panels, Sammilita Parishad and Forum, held at the trade body’s Uttara office in Dhaka, according to a press release.
Former BGMEA presidents Quazi Moniruzzaman, S M Fazlul Haque, Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, and Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez, along with the panel leaders from both Sammilita Parishad and Forum, attended the meeting.
Members of BGMEA’s Support Committee were also present.
BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain said that the election process was progressing with the full cooperation of all parties involved, and assured that the election would be conducted as soon as possible.
Following discussions with both panels, it was unanimously agreed that the election board and election-related committees would be formed by the end of January 2025, with the goal of completing the election process by the end of April 2025.
The meeting also addressed various issues affecting the garment industry, including the ongoing energy crisis banking concerns, and matters related to the National Board of Revenue, the statement added.
