Bangladesh’s export earnings rise 11.68pc in 7 months of FY25

Bangladesh’s export earnings in the first seven months (July-January) of the financial year 2024-25 increased by 11.68 per cent to $28.97 billion from $25.94 billion in the same period of FY24.

The performance in January 2025 alone showed a 5.70 per cent year-on-year increase, reaching $4.44 billion compared to $4.2 billion in January 2024, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) data released on Monday.

Readymade garments remained the dominant force behind export earnings and the sector recorded a 12.00 per cent growth in July-January FY25, reaching $23.55 billion from $21.3 billion in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Knitwear exports rose by 12.03 per cent to $12,687.65 million, while woven garments saw an 11.97 per cent increase, reaching $10,864.37 million in the July-January period of FY25.

In January 2025, RMG exports stood at $366 billion, reflecting a 5.57 per cent rise from January 2024.

Export earnings from frozen and live fish grew by 13.19 per cent, reaching $283.54 million, with shrimp exports up by 16.49 per cent at $196.77 million in the first seven months of FY25.

Export earnings from agricultural products increased by 10.59 per cent to $673.84 million, with a strong performance in January up 21.35 per cent YoY.

The pharmaceutical industry continued its steady growth, increasing by 11.29 per cent to $132.44 million in seven months of FY25, with January exports up by 6.38 per cent.

Export earnings from plastic products registered a remarkable 24.22 per cent growth with earnings rising to $181.79 million in July-January of FY25.

Earnings from leather and leather products showed a modest overall growth of 8.08 per cent reaching $669.03 million.

Jute and jute goods exports in July-January of FY25 declined by 8.35 per cent to $484.31 million in the first seven months of FY25, with a sharper drop of 9.85 per cent in January.

Export earnings from home textiles in july-January of FY25 grew by 6.22 per cent to $493.86 million, January exports saw a slight decline of 1.17 per cent, EPB data showed.
