The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the 15-member squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup, featuring Taskin Ahmed as the team’s vice-captain.
This announcement comes ahead of the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup scheduled to take place in the United States and the West Indies from June 2 to June 29.
Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, the chief selector of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), disclosed the squad during a press conference held at the Mirpur Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium today.
Despite concerns surrounding Taskin Ahmed’s fitness following an injury sustained during the fourth match against Zimbabwe, the selectors have opted to retain him in the squad, designating him as the deputy to Najmul Hasan Shanto.
In addition to the main squad, Hasan Mahmud and Afif Hossain have been named as reserve players.
Preparatory to the World Cup, Bangladesh recently clinched a 4-1 victory in a home series against Zimbabwe. They are scheduled to engage in another series against the United States, set to commence on May 21.
During the tournament, Bangladesh will compete in Group D alongside Sri Lanka, South Africa, Nepal, and the Netherlands. Their campaign begins with a match against Sri Lanka in Dallas on June 8, followed by encounters with South Africa on June 10, the Netherlands on June 13, and Nepal on June 17.
The Bangladesh squad comprises Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Taskin Ahmed (Vice-Captain), Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shakib Al Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah Riyad, Jaker Ali, Rishad Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
The reserve players are Hasan Mahmud and Afif Hossain.
