Bangladesh adds another LEED-certified green factory

Another garment factory in Bangladesh has achieved LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), further contributing to the country’s sustainable manufacturing landscape.

The Fashion Makers Ltd factory in Gazipur has been awarded a platinum rating, attaining a commendable score of 87, as confirmed by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

This achievement marks a significant milestone as the total count of green factories in Bangladesh reaches 215.

Bangladesh maintains its global leadership position with the largest number of green garment buildings, boasting 81 platinum-rated and 120 gold-rated establishments.

To earn this esteemed certification, projects must adhere to prerequisites and credits outlined by the USGBC, covering areas such as carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health, and indoor environmental quality.

Platinum certification represents the highest category in the ranking, requiring projects to earn more than 80 points out of 110.

Bangladesh’s achievement of 81 platinum-rated green garment buildings exemplifies its leadership in sustainable manufacturing.

Additionally, there are 120 gold-rated establishments, with scores ranging from 60 to 79 points, further highlighting the nation’s dedication to environmental stewardship within the textile industry.
