Bangladesh adds 4 more green factories, total now 224

Four additional readymade garment factories in Bangladesh, have recently achieved platinum certifications in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) from the US Green Building Council, bringing the total number of LEED certified green factories in the country to 224.

Among these factories are Ananta Jeanswear Limited, Big Boss Corporation Limited, Aptech Caswier Ltd, and Basic Shirts Limited, all located in Gazipur.

Ananta Jeanswear Limited achieved a platinum rating with a score of 90 out of 110, Big Boss Corporation Limited with 88, Aptech Caswier Ltd with 86, and Basic Shirts Limited also with a score of 90.

Out of the 224 LEED certified green factories in Bangladesh, 88 have attained platinum ratings and 122 have achieved gold certifications, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, awarded by the US Green Building Council, is earned by projects that meet prerequisites and credits addressing carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality.

Platinum certification, the highest category, requires projects to earn more than 80 points out of 110, while gold certification ranges from 60 to 79 points, and silver certification from 50 to 59 points.

According to BGMEA statistics, Bangladesh now hosts 59 of the top 100 highest-rated LEED certified green factories globally.
