Two additional readymade garment factories in Bangladesh, have recently achieved platinum certifications in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) from the US Green Building Council, bringing the total number of LEED certified green factories in the country to 226.
Bangladesh is now home to 60 of the top 100 highest-rated Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified factories globally, According to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
The newly certified factories are Saadatia Sweaters Ltd in Dhaka’s Ashulia and Executive Greentex Ltd in Gazipur’s Sreepur.
Saadatia Sweaters achieved Platinum certification with a score of 91, while Executive Greentex received Gold certification with a score of 69.
Out of the 226 LEED certified green factories in Bangladesh, 89 have attained platinum ratings and 123 have achieved gold certifications.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, awarded by the US Green Building Council, is earned by projects that meet prerequisites and credits addressing carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality.
Platinum certification, the highest category, requires projects to earn more than 80 points out of 110, while gold certification ranges from 60 to 79 points, and silver certification from 50 to 59 points.
