30 factories honoured with Green Factory Award 2025

A total of 30 factories across 16 industrial sectors have been awarded the prestigious Green Factory Award 2025 in recognition of their commitment to eco-friendly, sustainable, and socially responsible industrial practices.

The awards were presented at a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Labour and Employment on Tuesday in Dhaka.

The event, held under the Green Factory Award Policy 2020, celebrated companies that demonstrated excellence in environmental management, workplace safety, employee welfare and innovation.

The winners were selected from among 72 nominees following field inspections and assessments conducted by a committee comprising experts from the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), the Department of Environment and the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Among the awardees were several enterprises belonging to some of Bangladesh’s leading industrial conglomerates.

Transcom Group, PRAN-RFL Group, Akij Group and Ispahani Group each had multiple units recognised.

Transcom Electronics and SKF Pharmaceuticals (Transcom), Chorka Textile and Habiganj Agro (PRAN-RFL), Akij Textile Mills and Akij Food & Beverage (Akij), as well as Zerin Tea Garden and Mirzapur Tea Garden (Ispahani) were among the distinguished winners.

From the garments sector, Chorka Textile, Ecotex, Fakir Fashion, Tarasima Apparels, Auko Tex and Square Fashions were honoured.

In the textile category, Akij Textile Mills, Pioneer Denim, KDS Textile Mills and Four H Dyeing & Printing stood out for their sustainable production efforts.

Pragati Industries received the award in the automobile sector, while Transcom Electronics, Fair Electronics and Walton Hi-Tech Industries were recognised in the electrical and electronics category.

In addition, Adzi Trims Ltd from the accessories and backward linkage industry, and Akij Food & Beverage and Habiganj Agro from the food and beverage sector were honoured for their eco-conscious operations.

Zerin and Mirzapur Tea Gardens were recognised from the tea sector, while Shoeniverse Footwear earned recognition in the leather category.

Other awardees included Karupannya Rangpur (jute), X Ceramics (tiles and ceramics), Remark HB and Wire Tapestries (cosmetics) and SKF Pharmaceuticals (pharmaceuticals).

In shipbuilding and shipbreaking, PHP Ship Breaking & Recycling, KR Ship Recycling Yard and Khulna Shipyard Ltd were recognised.

Seven Circle (Bangladesh) Ltd was awarded in the cement category and BSRM Steels Ltd in the steel industry.

Notable industry representatives who received the awards on behalf of their companies included Zaref Ayat Hossain (Transcom Group), Uzma Chowdhury and Shaheen Shah Azad (PRAN-RFL), Sheikh Jamil Uddin and AKM Rashedul Arefin (Akij), Mirza Ahmed Ispahani (Ispahani), Masum Chowdhury (Ecotex), Fakir Kamruzzaman Nahid (Fakir Fashion), Hasan Mahmud (Tarasima Apparels), Gias Uddin (Auko Tex), Biplob Ahmed (Square Fashions) and Md Shahriar (Adzi Trims).

Labour Ministry Adviser M Sakhawat Hossain, who presented the awards, said that the honour not only recognised the recipients’ achievements but also reflected the government’s broader vision.

He said that the government wanted the country’s industries to remain productive while placing emphasis on environmental responsibility and the welfare of workers.

He further highlighted that the award-winning factories would play a key role in guiding Bangladesh through the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and in embracing renewable energy.

Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Industries, said that the initiative was expected to encourage sustainable practices and the implementation of international labour standards.

The program was presided over by Labour Ministry Secretary A.H.M. Shafiquzzaman. Other speakers were Ardashir Kabir, President of the Bangladesh Employers’ Federation; Omar Md. Imrul Mosin, Inspector General of DIFE; and Anwar Hossain, Chairman of the Tripartite Consultative Council.
