13 killed in bus-pickup collision in Faridpur

Thirteen people were killed in a bus-pickup van collision in Faridpur on 16 April

At least 13 people, tragically including six members from a single family, lost their lives in a collision between a bus and a pickup van in Faridpur on Tuesday morning.

Among the deceased, seven were men, three were women, and three were children.

The accident occurred when a Unique Paribahan bus traveling from Dhaka to Jashore collided with a pickup van heading in the opposite direction in the Diknagar area of Faridpur’s Kanaipur upazila around 8:00 am, as stated by Mohammad Morshed Alam, the superintendent of police in Faridpur.

Alam further mentioned that at least two others sustained injuries in the accident. They were promptly rescued and admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur.

Efficient response teams including the Faridpur Highway Police, Fire Service, and local police swiftly arrived at the scene upon receiving the information and conducted rescue operations.

Md Hasanuzzaman, the officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, confirmed that all the deceased were passengers of the pickup van.

Concurrently, a five-member investigation committee has been constituted by the district administration to probe this tragic incident.

Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Md Kamrul Ahsan Talukder announced that the government will provide Tk5 lakh to the family of each deceased and Tk3 lakh to each injured individual as compensation.
