Rashed Maqsood appointed chairman of BSEC

Khondoker Rashed Maqsood has been appointed Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for a four-year term, effective immediately.

The announcement was made in a circular issued by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance on Sunday.

Currently serving as an adviser for strategy and business development with the International Finance Corporation, Rashed Maqsood has an extensive background in banking.

He was previously the Managing Director of Standard Bank and served as both Managing Director and CEO of NRB Commercial Bank.

Additionally, he held the position of Country Officer at Citibank NA Bangladesh and was Managing Director at Citibank Indonesia.

This appointment follows the recent cancellation of an earlier appointment.

On August 13, economist M Masrur Reaz was initially named BSEC Chairman, but he declined the position on August 17.

Consequently, the August 13 circular was rescinded by a new directive from the Financial Institutions Division on August 18.

The position of BSEC Chairman became vacant following the resignation of Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam on August 11, after Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as Prime Minister and subsequent departure from the country.
