Most garment factories in Ashulia reopened on Wednesday after the owners agreed to meet workers’ 18-point demands, including the implementation of minimum wages, to resolve the ongoing labour unrest in the sector.

In the morning, areas such as Bipile, Jamgara, and Kathgara within the Ashulia industrial zone saw the majority of garment factories reopening.

Workers started arriving at the factories spontaneously from early morning.

Officials of Industrial Police said that nearly all industrial units started production on Wednesday, except for 19 factories, four of which are non- readymade garment units.

Of the 19 factories, 14 remained closed in accordance with the labour law provision 13(1), which states ‘no work, no pay,’ while another 5 factories declared a holiday. Some of these factories, including Generation Next, are experiencing issues related to outstanding salaries.

Joint forces are conducting ongoing patrols in the industrial area, while additional law enforcement personnel have been stationed outside various factories to enhance security.
