Forum, one of the panels contesting the upcoming Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) election for the 2025–27 term, has announced a 14-point election manifesto aimed at building a more sustainable and resilient garment sector.
At a formal event held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Mahmud Hasan Khan, panel leader of Forum, unveiled the manifesto and introduced panel members.
‘The garment industry is not just a business—it is a reflection of our labour, sacrifice and dreams,’ Khan said.
He emphasised that the role of the BGMEA must go beyond issuing certificates and documents, urging the need for leadership that addresses deep-rooted industry challenges with meaningful solutions.
‘BGMEA must take responsibility to build Bangladesh as a brand,’ he added, outlining a vision that calls for more proactive and transformative leadership within the industry.

Key proposals in the manifesto include support for SMEs and non-bonded factories, formulation of a detailed exit policy for struggling businesses, and government engagement to mitigate the impact of global tariff wars.
The panel also pledged to create a special fund to assist factory owners in distress.
Further commitments include advocating for the establishment of a separate ministry dedicated to the apparel sector, promoting market and product diversification to meet global challenges, and taking steps to address issues related to banking, customs, and the country’s post-LDC graduation.
Forum President Abdus Salam, Secretary General Rashid Ahmed Hossaini, Chief Election Coordinator Faisal Samad and several candidates from the panel were present at the event.
The meeting was presided over by Election Board Chairman Mohammad Iqbal, with former BGMEA presidents Anisur Rahman Sinha and Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury Parvez also in attendance.
The BGMEA election is scheduled for 31 May, with three panels—Forum, Sammilita Parishad, and Oikkyo Parishad—vying for leadership of the country’s influential apparel exporters’ body.
