BGMEA, BBCC pact to boost Bangladesh Canada trade

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Business Chamber of Canada (BBCC) have have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen trade and investment ties between the two countries.

The agreement aimed to boost collaboration, partnerships, and joint ventures in the apparel, textile, and related sectors, said a BGMEA statement issued on November 6.

The MoU was signed on the day at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara by BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan and BBCC President Alamgir M Rahman.

The event was attended by BGMEA First Vice President Selim Rehman, Senior Vice President Inam ul Haque Khan, Vice President Md. Rezwan Selim, Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman, Directors Faisal Samad and Nafis-Ud-Daula, and former Director Iqbal Hamid Quraishi Adnan.

The MoU would establishe an institutional framework designed to deliver mutual benefits to members of both the BGMEA and the BBCC, ensuring deeper collaboration in trade, investment, and the exchange of knowledge.

At the event, BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan said the agreement would help unlock new opportunities for Bangladesh’s industry in Canada and North America.

He said the goal was to strengthen economic ties between the two countries through increased trade, investment, and the exchange of expertise.

Under the MoU, both organisations would work together to improve communication and networking among their members.

According to the statement, the both trade bodies would organise trade fairs, exhibitions, and business delegations in Bangladesh and Canada, and promote Bangladeshi apparel and textile products in North America.

They would also support entrepreneurs and professionals through training and skills development, encourage investment and joint ventures, and share market intelligence and policy updates.

The BGMEA hoped that this partnership would boost business relations between Bangladesh and Canada and lead to stronger bilateral trade and economic growth.
