Banking policy dialogue, the first of its kind, was held on Monday at the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management auditorium in the city.
Fazle Kabir, chief adviser and dialogue lead, Emeritus Fellow, BIBM and former governor of the Bangladesh Bank chaired the programme.
Kazi Sayedur Rahman, chairman of BIBM executive committee and deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank was present in the dialogue as a special guest.
Md Akhtaruzzaman, research adviser and director general of BIBM delivered welcome address.
A background paper ‘Promoting International Trade Services’ was presented in the programme by Shah Md Ahsan Habib, professor of BIBM.
Selected a regulator panel (four departments) and a bank panel (five banks) took part in the dialogue. Headed by the respective Directors of FEPD, FEOD, DFEI, and BFIU, 12 regulators took part in the regulator panel. Led by the CEOs of Janata Bank, Islami Bank, Mutual Trust Bank, Midland Bank and Citibank NA, 15 bank executives took part in the bank panel.
An expert group of audiences (head of trade and CAMECO) also participated in the dialogue.
The event is expected to come up with a ‘Policy and Operational brief’ as the outcome. Md Nehal Ahmed, professor and director (DSBM) of BIBM gave vote of thanks on behalf of the research team.
