Leading global smart device brand HONOR has officially inaugurated its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bangladesh, marking its formal entry into local device production and bringing the company closer to producing devices under the ‘Made in Bangladesh’ label.

The launch ceremony took place at the Hi-Tech Park in Kaliakair, Gazipur, on December 2, and was attended by senior government officials, top HONOR executives and representatives from Smart Technologies.

The China-based smartphone brand HONOR targets a rapid scale-up, beginning with one production line and expanding to four lines within the first year.

The factory expects to produce around 60,000 units per month in 2025, with output rising as new lines are added.

Backed by an investment of around Tk 150 crore, the facility currently employs 254 people, a figure expected to surpass 1,000 by its second year.

Through this project, HONOR aims to reduce import dependence, increase affordability and position Bangladesh as a future technology manufacturing hub.

The newly opened factory incorporates AI-supported automation across key stages of the assembly line, enabling greater precision, stable output and improved efficiency.

The ceremony was attended by several high-level guests, including Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology; Shish Haider Chowdhury, Secretary of the ICT Division; Md Nurannabi, Director of BTRC; Md Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan, Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority; and Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Managing Director of Smart Technologies.

HONOR was represented by George Zheng, President for Southeast Asia, and Derrick Deng, President of Global Supply Chain Management.

Members of HONOR Bangladesh, including Country Manager Lang Guo, Head of Business Abdullah Al Mamun, and Deputy Country Manager Muzahidul Islam, were also present.

At the initial stage, the facility will operate a single production line capable of producing 1,500 units per day.

HONOR expects to expand to four production lines within the first year, significantly increasing output to meet growing demand in the local market.

HONOR entered the Bangladesh market in late 2023 and has already captured about three per cent of the country’s smartphone market.

Officials expect this figure to rise to 10 per cent next year.

The establishment of the AI-supported factory is expected to create significant employment opportunities, accelerate technology transfer and strengthen local technical expertise.

The facility will also reduce import dependence and help integrate Bangladesh more deeply into the global electronics supply chain.

The manufacturing plant covers 9,000 square metres of land, with 5,381 square metres of operational space.
